Highball to Thurmond: 50 Mile, 55K, and 50 Mile Relay
The highball was used in early railroads to signal the track was clear. When the ball was hoisted, trains were cleared to proceed at full speed! We’re raising the ball on this unique 50 Mile, 50K, and 50 Mile Relay event, encouraging athletes to proceed on this epic destination, trail race, ultra marathon adventure. Participants run through New River Gorge National Park and finish in Thurmond, West Virginia.

Join us every 3rd Wednesday of the month to get out into nature and enjoy an evening of swimming, climbing or running. Whether you're a seasoned pro or just dipping your toes, all are welcome! Active SWV is on a mission to help everyone to enjoy a healthy and active lifestyle. As a non-profit, they provide an ecosystem of physical activity for the residents of southern West Virginia by offering programs led by trained volunteers from within the communities they serve.

NRG Trail Festival
Experience New River Gorge National Park through this one-of-a-kind event! Starting at Fayetteville Town Park in Fayetteville, West Virginia, this challenging trail race goes into the National Park, through the forest, and loops back to the start, offering views of the river hundreds of feet below. With significant elevation gain, each race offers a difficult yet scenic course.

The raising the ball on this unique 50 mile and 55 Kilometer event, and encouraging athletes to proceed on this epic adventure. Both races finish in Thurmond, West Virginia. With a population of 5 at the 2010 census, it is the least populated railroad town in the nation and part of the New River Gorge National Park.
