Whether you are a mountain biker, trail runner, hiker, or backpacker, the Allegheny Trail (ALT) is the perfect trail for you! You can easily access the trail in less than an hour and a half from Fayetteville.
The Allegheny Trail-West Virginia's Longest Hiking Trail is the state's premiere hiking trail. Spanning 311 miles through the Allegheny Mountains, the trail will take you through three national forests, seven Mon Forest Towns, two state forests, six state parks and six counties from the Mason-Dixon Line in Preston County to Peter's Mountain in Monroe County. The Southern Terminus intersects the world-famous Appalachian Trail. With over 35 trailheads, you can get on trail for a day hike, a weekend or section hike or a thru hike. The Allegheny Trail offers breathtaking views like Cheat Canyon, Cheat River, Blackwater Falls, Gaudineer, Green Bank Observatory, Greenbrier River, and Hanging Rock Raptor Observatory.
