Peak Color is here: Where are the best views?

West Virginia at the height of fall with the complete palette of oranges, yellows and reds represented is truly spectacular.  You can take it all in from a variety of vantage points.

  • Enjoy an easy 1.3 mile hike out to Long Point, the most dramatic overlook in the entire New River Gorge.  A rolling hike through the woods leads you to a rock outcropping jutting into the Gorge with incredible views of the big bridge and the surrounding area.  Best photo op ever!
  • Don’t  want to hike? Hit the overlook at the National Park Service Visitor Center on the north side of the Gorge or head to Hawks Nest State Park.  A short stroll will take you to their overlook.
  • Hike the Skyline Trail at Babcock State Park to hit a number of overlooks that provide great views of the Mann’s Creek Gorge as it merges with the New River Gorge.
  • Climbers! Pick any route on Endless Wall or Beauty Mountain. You can soak up the late season sun along with the crazy colors.
  • Mountain Bikers!  Take the opportunity to explore the trails at Ace Whitewater down in Minden.  You will end up at the Concho overlook which provides huge views of the Gorge looking downriver.
  • Don’t want to hike one bit? Want to drink a cold beer while you soak up the color? Head to the Burrito Bar located right off Rt 19. This charming, low-key restaurant/music venue provides the best sunset and leaf peeping option for the sedentary!
