Gauley Season is Here! – Weekend Update for Sept 12-13, 2009

By: 0 Comments

Gauley Season begins this weekend. Friday, September 11, the Army Corps of Engineers will begin the seasonal draw down of Summersville Lake to account for winter and spring flood waters. The 2800 cfs scheduled water release takes place over 6 consecutive weekends and is welcomed yearly by whitewater enthusiasts because of the amazing rapids and river features that come to life in the 26 mile canyon downstream of the dam.

For rock climbers, Gauley Season means optimal conditions at the New River Gorge and surrounding climbing areas. We have cool temperatures, low humidity and amazing autumn scenery.

Gauley Season  Whitewater Rafting Deal
For those of you who have ever considered giving the Gauley River a try, we have worked out a great deal with a local outfitter to get you on the water at an affordable price. One of our area’s smaller whitewater outfitters, West Virginia Adventures is willing to extend us a deal (based on availability) to get you on a Gauley raft trip for $79. This helps WVA fill up a boat or a bus with paying customers, and gets you a deal that is just over half the regular price! If you are interested in this, contact the shop or call direct to West Virginia Adventures 800-292-0880 a day or two before you would like to raft.
