Fayetteville

Park your car and walk! All these shops are within easy walking distance of each other.  We are starting our tour at the south end of town, down past Cathedral Cafe.

Wisteria’s Gifts. Located at the south end of town underneath the Stars and Stripes Barbershop is a charming, immaculate gift shop filled to the brim with a wide variety of collectibles, Vera Bradley purses, candles, crafts, chimes, flags and antiques. 304-574-3678

Great Googly Moogly. Located in a refurbished gas station just south of Whitewater Photography, this charming business carries lots of interesting stuff, from ethnic-y gifts to glasswear to hippie-ish clothing.  Well worth a visit!  304-574-2202

Catheral Cafe Gift Shop.  Located in the loft upstairs is a killer little  gift shop including consignment clothing, jewelry, cool belts and purses, eco-tees, wooden toys and more.  304-574-0202

The Hobbit Hole.  Across the street from the Historic Fayette Theatre you will find an eclectic assortment of well-priced merchandise, from vintage dresses to handmade furniture, from photographs to bowls made from old records.  Jen Garvin is your proprieter and no one in town has a better  sense of cool.  No phone.

Studio B Gallery and Gifts.  This terrific gallery has relocated to the north end of Keller Ave. across from Dirty Ernie’s.  This gallery features West Virginia painters, ceramicists, and photographers as well as the most interesting selection of beer and wine in the area. You’ll find a wide variety of price points.  Local kids are obsessed with the glass animals.  304-574-9100

Marathon Bicycle Company This is the first of Fayetteville’s two terrific bike shops.  Adam sells Gary Fisher, Trek, Cannondale, Rocky Mountain and Miracle.  Rent a bench/tools if you want to wrench on your bike.  Get the scoop on the New River Bike Union here. Enquire about group rides.  304-574-233

New River Antique Mall – Located in the old Daniel’s Fresh Mart building, next to the Post Office.  We are happy to welcome this new assortment of 34 vendors to town.  Each booth offers an eclectic selection of antiques and collectibles. Open seven days a week during summer season.  304-574-4680

New River Bikes – This great full service local bike shop is now your source for all your skateboarding needs as well.   Sales, service, rentals, tours, and plenty of good info. ACE Adventure Gear – Located a mile down Fayette Station Rd. in the old Rivers Rafting complex, this is the area’s only boat shop.  Loads of boats to shop or demo and a great selection of paddles, spray skirts and accessories.  Stand up paddleboard rentals available. North of the New River Gorge Bridge

Canyon Rim Gifts – Located across the street from the National Park Service’s Canyon Rim Visitor Center, this is the areas largest knick-knack gift/fudge shop (shoppe?)  You know what we are talking about—where you go for that great cheesy stuff kids love.  574-3818

Blue Smoke Specialties – Ansted is a sleepy little town but worth a visit.  Blue Smoke is one of their stand-out, award winning businesses.  Tours available.  658-3800

Gauley River Pottery – Located a ¼ mile off Rt. 19 on Mt. Lookout Road, this cool business, started by a pair of kayakers from the whitewater industry, is fun to visit.  Mary and John and their three kids have created a dream come true.  And their pottery is beautiful.  Tour the studio and watch them work.  872-2841, 872-0244

To the South: Beckley and Oak Hill

Tamarack – This must-see attraction is south of the bridge, in Beckley. They claim to have the Best of West Virginia and we agree.  A large, unique building houses an amazing selection of handcrafted furniture, jewelry, pottery, toys, instruments, and much more. You can’t miss it for all the signs.  256-6843

Antiques at Aides -Located in an old department store in Historic downtown Mt. Hope, this is one of the largest and best antique shops in Fayette County.  Great bargains, great selection.  304-877-2088

New River Gorge Antiques and Collectibles – You’ll see their billboard from Rt. 19, north of Rt. 60.  This place has a great selection of primitive cabinets, breakfronts, antiques and glassware. 658-3600

Collectibles, Reproductions Within (CRW) – This shop carries antiques, fiesta ware, glassware, and collectibles.  Located in Summersville.  872-7387

Ansted Antiques – You’ll find an interesting assortment of stuff, some of which is overpriced.  Located on the main drag in Ansted.  Park in front and honk to get the owner to let you in!  Sorry, no number!
